Understanding Stamp Duty & Registration Charges in India

Stamp Duty: It is a tax collected by the State Government for legalizing the property transfer document. In Telangana, the standard stamp duty is usually 4%.

Registration Fee: This is a one-time charge paid to the sub-registrar office to record the transaction in the government's registry. It generally ranges from 0.5% to 1%.

Transfer Duty: Often combined with stamp duty, this is an additional surcharge used for local development. In Hyderabad, it is often around 1.5%.

Pro Tip: Always check the current Market Value (SRO Value) before buying. If you buy a property for ₹50 Lakhs but the government market value is ₹60 Lakhs, you must pay stamp duty on the higher amount.
